FAQS AND FACTS

1. What kind of video can be used to make a DVD?

Almost any format that has been used in the United States
since the beginning of home video. We can play and compress from:

VHS
VHS-C
Video 8
Video Hi8
Video Digital Hi8
BetaMax
BetamaxSP
BetaCam
BetaCamSP
Mini DV
U-Matic 3/4 inch

2. What is involved in making a DVD?

Most pre-2000 videotape formats were analog (think of wavy grooves on
your old LPs) Contemporary video formats such as MiniDv and Digital Hi8
are digital - simply a stream of 1s and 0s that is generated by sampling
the analog signal many thousands of times a second. Creating a DVD involves
digitizing your analog material (audio and video) and then creating
the specific kind of file required by the DVD standard. These files are in the MP2 (m2v)
format and are called VOB files. Other files necessary for titles and
navigation through your DVD are also made and then burned on the blank disk.

3. What about picture and sound quality?

A direct, one-to-one copy of your videotape will look just like the original. Some
dark or flat scenes in your original tape can be made to look better with image
processing. Excessive background noise can be reduced in the same way.
As the amount of time involved in "cleaning up" sound and picture varies
greatly depending on the tape's problems, we can quote you a price on that service.
Unlike an analog to analog copy, digital to digital replication is called cloning
which means an exact duplicate.

4. What about editing?

It is possible to go as far as you like when making a DVD - from a direct copy -
to a fully edited program with custom DVD chapters,
animated DVD menus, music, titles, slideshows and much more.

5. Can you make a DVD from a DVD?

Yes, but we will not knowingly duplicate copyrighted material.

6. Are DVDs permanent?

Nothing is permanent, but relative to magnetic tape DVD's are much more difficult
to damage and can be backed up easily without any loss of quality.
This is because there is no physical contact to the disk when it is played.
The DVD surface is simply scanned by a laser.
A videotape must be physically dragged over a spinning metal reader,
and through capstan/pinchroller system. This physical contact, no matter
how well engineered, will eventually denegrate the tape.

7. What kind of disks do you use

We make non-geographically specific DVD-R disks using primarily RiData blanks. These
are rugged disks that have earned a very high customer satisfaction rating. Their failure
rate is much lower than most commercially available recordable disks.

8. What happens if my disk won't play?

Should a DVD made by ezdvd ever not play, you will get a new one free of charge.

9. What extras do you offer?

We can create and print custom graphics directly on DVD disks, these can be titles,
photographs or a series of frames from your video. We can create and print DVD cases and inserts.

We are also a custom video production facility for sales, training, events, personal promotion,
video resumes etc. We also make video presentations from your still images.

10. What if my tapes contain sensitive or confidential personal or business information?

We can assure discretion. You will receive the only copies that are successfully made. Should
the process fail due to power failure or technical problems, the unfinished DVDs will be shredded.
This is not an entirely automated process, we do check from time to time to make sure that
the duplication is proceeding properly. If we see you robbing a bank on your video, we will
most likely ask you about it. These days, home video productions have become elaborate.
As far as anything else goes, we respect your privacy as if it were our own.

11. Do you make Hi-DEF DVDs?

Not at this time. Once we see a demand, we will offer TOSHIBA HD and SONY BLU-RAY disks.
